What is SPRAVATO?
SPRAVATO is a prescription nasal spray used in conjunction with an oral antidepressant. Spravato is a treatment indicated for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.
How it Works in the Brain
SPRAVATO acts as an NMDA Receptor Antagonist. It targets the Glutamate system (a key neurotransmitter) and helps restore communication between brain cells (synaptogenesis). SPRAVATO promotes rapid improvement of depressive systems.
What To Expect During Treatment?
SPRAVATO is self-administered in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Patients are closely monitored and observed for treatment in TWO weekly sessions, both lasting two for hours. After the induction phase, patients have the option to do SPRAVATO once weekly. Potential side effects may include dissociation, sedation, and dizziness. Given the side effects, safety is a priority. This requires patients not to drive after sessions. Benefits of SPRAVATO can be felt within days, sometimes even hours!
**An initial INTAKE appointment is required before treatment can begin to evaluate if you are a qualified candidate. SPRAVATO does take some time to get approved through your insurance. Depending on your insurance plan, please give us roughly a month before treatment can begin.**
